Choosing an edition
QuickBooks Desktop for bookkeepers and accounting practices
You are not keeping one set of books. You are moving between them, and the edition matters more for you than for anyone else.
A practice has a problem no single business has: every client file arrives in a different state, created in a different edition, kept to a different standard. The work is not data entry — it is finding what is wrong and fixing it, at speed, across files you did not create.
That is the specific job QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise Accountant is built for, and it is the reason the edition exists separately at all.
What you are likely to need
Opening whatever the client runs
Cross-edition compatibility, so a file created in another edition opens rather than forcing the client to change software first.
Finding what is broken
Client data review — the tooling for spotting and correcting the errors that accumulate in a file someone else has been keeping.
Working in volume
Batch entry rather than one transaction per screen, and the Accountant Center as the hub when you are moving between several sets of books in a day.
Invoices for your own books
A receipt is emailed automatically on every order, and a formal invoice is issued on request — which matters when the purchase goes through a practice account.

QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise Accountant 2024
It carries everything Enterprise Solutions has — advanced inventory, advanced pricing, advanced reporting, role-based permissions — plus the Accountant Center, client data review, batch entry and cross-edition compatibility. It costs a little more than Enterprise Solutions — $11 more at one seat — which is what the practice toolkit is worth the moment you open a second company file, and not before.
How many seats
Seats are the people in one file at the same moment, not the number of clients. A sole practitioner is one seat; a practice where two or three staff work simultaneously is two or three. How to count yours
Before you order
If you buy licenses on behalf of clients rather than for your own practice, use the several-licenses route rather than the checkout — quantities, per-client invoicing and where the keys are sent are all easier to settle in one message than in five separate orders.
Whichever edition you take, the license never expires — but Intuit ends the connected services for the 2024 release, payroll and bank feeds included, on 31 May 2027. What that means
